After the bifurcation of Ganjam & Puri districts on 10th June, 1957, the reorganized judgeship came to be known as Ganjam. In 1984, Phulbani District was carved out. On 2nd October, 1992, a new district, viz. Gajapati, was constituted, and the name of the judgeship was changed to Ganjam-Gajapati. On 30th July, 2011, when Gajapati District was separated from this judgeship, it came to be known as Ganjam judgeship. The headquarter of Ganjam judgeship is located at Berhampur.

Sixty-Nine different courts are functioning in the district with outlying stations at Sanakhemundi, Digapahandi, Chhatrapur, Soroda, Bhanjanagar, Buguda, Kodala, Aska, Patrapur, Purusottampur, Hinjlicut, Seragada, Kabisuryanagar, Polasara, Khallikote, and Jagannathprasad. The District Court is functioning in an old building at Berhampur, which was constructed in 1948 with 8 courtrooms. In 1948, another building of 10 courtrooms, was constructed adjacent to the old building. Out of eighteen court complexes in the judgeship, sixteen court complexes are covered under e-court projects. 360 witnesses were examined in virtual court & 293 vulnerable witnesses were examined in VWDC. 12042 notices have been delivered in N-STEP. Warrant Management system was implemented since 01.08.2023 and 7080 warrants were issued. The Regional Judicial Academy, Ganjam, at Berhampur imparted regular training to the Judicial Officers and ministerial staff posted in the cluster districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, and Kandhamal. A special room for women litigants called “Room for nourishing mothers” having basic facilities was opened in the District court premises. A Branch Office of SBI was opened in the Civil Court premises Berhampur, Ganjam on 08.02.2025. One e-library for the Bar Association, Chhatrapur was inaugurated on 27.12.2025. During the year 2025, various legal awareness programmes were organized on different topics and significant days were observed by DLSA, Ganjam. A “Stress Management Programme” was organized on 19.12.2025 in the District Court, Ganjam, Berhampur for all the staffs of the Judgeship. Enrollment of dropout inmates of Observation Home-cum-Special Home (boys), Berhampur was made under the State Institute of Open Schooling (SIOS) System. Twenty-Six cases were settled in Mediation during the Campaign “Mediation for the Nation”, Drive-I, 2025.
